Sei
Sei lives in a town that is famous for the occult, which is supernatural and magic and stuff. Recently his town has been getting more recognition for sightings of “terrors”, which are weird supernatural beings. Sei hates his town, and he hates the occult. Mostly because his father disappeared studying the occult, and his mother left as a result of his disappearance. Sei’s sister, whose name I’m not sure was even mentioned (I totally forgot her name lol), is also obsessed with the occult. She spends most of Sei’s hard earned money, buying occult souvenirs, which angers the older teen.
Kuchisake-Onna
One day, Sei catches a sighting of an urban legend occult, Kuchisake-Onna. Kuchisake-Onna is said to be a terror who goes around with some blade, asking people if she’s pretty or not. If they say no, she basically kills them. She wears a mask over her face to cover the slit that runs from ear to ear on her face. Not believing his eyes, he actually decides to follow her (how dumb). Sei sees Kuchisake, out shopping and notices she changes her appearance to seem more feminine. Kuchisake-Onna catches Sei “hitting” on her, and then they somehow end up on a date.
Sei and a mishap
Up close, Kuchisake- Onna appears to be a sweet, normal and even somewhat bubbly girl, getting excited about eating hamburgers. Sei tells her she’s pretty, and convinces himself that the girl cannot be Kuchisake-Onna. That is, until she opens her mouth and he’s sees the slits. Sei freaks out, to Kuchisake-Onna’s dismay. Still he decides to stay and eat with her. They talk, and a stranger shows up forcing Kuchisake-Onna to leave, after insulting her a few times. Outside the restaurant, Sei’s really dumb sister, is flashing her camera at Kushisake-Onna and makes the mistake of calling the girl ugly, although she looks completely normal. Kuchisake-Onna then gets angry and goes on a rampage. Sei realizes that although she looked completely innocent and harmless, looks can be deceiving.
Thoughts
Again, there was really nothing scary about the first chapter. I thought it rather cute that Sei decided to stay and see the date through even when realizing who the girl was. His sister is probably one of the dumbest characters I have ever read about. I’m really trying to chalk it down to just her being young, but she cant be too younger than Sei. I can’t wait to know more about this stranger who interrupted their date. I can’t tell if it’s a girl or a boy. Whoever they are, they really don’t like Kuchisake-Onna. However, they made no move to kill her either. I’d like to say she isn’t as dangerous as she looks, but she caused quite a commotion towards the end of the chapter. I wonder how this is all going to play out. Will they survive? Who knows!
